Google employees mum on plans during local talk
Google employees were in Omaha on Tuesday to meet with representatives of the U.S. Strategic Command and to speak to students and faculty at the Kiewit Institute...
During the talk Tuesday, Google sales engineer Mike Evanoff did say that the company's existing data centers contain tens of thousands of inexpensive processors and disks that are held on trays by Velcro. When equipment breaks, it is simply thrown out and replaced.
Winnie Callahan, the institute's executive director, said the institute hopes to form a partnership with Google and the company that brought Google to StratCom, NCI Information Systems Inc. of Reston, Va.
StratCom's Global Innovation and Strategy Center is near the Scott Technology Center on the University of Nebraska at Omaha's south campus.
The institute, also located on the south campus, works with numerous companies on technology projects that give students real-life experience.
Dixon and Evanoff are part of a team that works with federal agencies interested in using Google technologies, such as the Google Earth mapping feature, for their own purposes....
